
Action Alert: Please Ask the Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee Members to OPPOSE SB168, Which Amends the State Vaccine Registry law and the Statewide Advisory Commission on Immunizations law


TEXT OF SB168– Department of Health — ImmuNet and Statewide Advisory Commission on Immunizations
FOR the purpose of repealing the exemption for certain health care providers or agents from the requirement to provide individuals receiving vaccinations with certain documents, notify the individuals or the parent or guardian of a minor of a certain right, and report all vaccines administered to ImmuNet; altering the membership of and term limits for members of the Statewide Advisory Commission on Immunizations; and generally relating to ImmuNet and the Statewide Advisory Commission on Immunizations.
why icm OPPOSES SB168
- This amendment would require healthcare providers and their agents working in assisted living programs, continuing care retirement communities, and medical daycare programs to report all vaccines given to he ImmuNet vaccine registry, where patient data is still stored even if the patient opts out of sharing it with agencies granted access by the state.

This amendment would place political bureaucrats on the Statewide Advisory Commission on Immunizations in indefinite positions without term limits while imposing term limits upon members of the Commission who have science and medical backgrounds and experience. -
This amendment would require the State Superintendent of schools or their designee to be a member of the Statewide Advisory Commission on Immunizations without term limits. -
This amendment would remove term limits for the chair of the Maryland Childhood Immunization Partnership or their designee -
This amendment would impose term limits for certain medically-trained and consumer awareness professionals who are members of the Statewide Advisory Commission on Immunizations, including: one representative from a public health consumer advocacy group; one nurse practitioner; one representative from a health insurance carrier; one consumer; one pharmacist; one physician member of MedChi, the Maryland State Medical Society; two physician members of the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics with experience in private practice and infectious diseases; one member of the Maryland Academy of Family Physicians; one member of the American College of Physicians—Internal Medicine Society of Maryland; the Executive Director of the Maryland Partnership for Prevention; and up to three additional members selected by the Secretary.
