Action Alert: Please Ask Judiciary Committee Members to SUPPORT HB564 Which Would Protect the Fundamental Rights of Parents to Retain Custody and Medical Privacy
TEXT OF HB564 – Family Law – Child Custody and Visitation – Disease or Illness
Prohibiting a disease or an illness of a party that has not required hospitalization from being considered by a court as a factor for denying the party child custody or visitation in a custody or visitation proceeding.
why icm SUPPORTS HB564
- Parents have been challenged in court and have lost custody over vaccination status in recent months, despite overwhelming scientific evidence that children under 18 are at incredibly low statistical risk from Covid-19 infection or exposure.
- There is no scientific evidence demonstrating that separation of parents and children based on vaccination status of the parent confers any individual or community-wide benefit in any way; conversely, there is tremendous potential for harm to families and especially children. Parents need immediate protection from juducial and governmental overreach based on vaccination status.
- Decisions about any vaccinations, and particularly experimental mRNA vaccines, must be private between citizens and their healthcare providers. Precedent is currently being set for family court officials to violate the rights and privacy of parents in custody disputes. Parents in Maryland deserve legal protection from this governmental overreach.
