Action Alert: Please Ask Health and Government Operations Committee Members to SUPPORT HB1189 Which Would Uphold Federal Law Requiring Healthcare Providers to Report Adverse Events Following Vaccination
TEXT OF HB1189
Public Health – Vaccines Administered Under Emergency Use Authorization – Reporting of Adverse Events
Requiring a health care provider to report to the national Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System an adverse event occurring after the administration of a vaccine, including a COVID-19 vaccine or booster, administered under an emergency use authorization.
why icm SUPPORTS HB1189
- Federal law requires healthcare providers who administer vaccines to report adverse events following vaccination to the VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System) database; however there is little to no oversight or enforcement of this law
- The FDA estimates that only 1-10% of adverse events following vaccination are ever reported, while a Harvard University study commissioned by the CDC found that fewer than 1% of adverse events are reported to VAERS. A majority of healthcare providers are not aware of nor compliant with federal requirements
- Other data sources, including data released by whistleblowers at the Department of Defense, indicate that injuries and deaths caused by Covid-19 vaccines in particular may be grossly under-reported
- Federal and state public health policies, including multiple bills currently up for vote in the Maryland legislature, draw upon VAERS data to evaluate the relative risks versus benefits of CDC-recommended vaccines. Accurate data is crucial in determining the best course of treatment for individual patients as well as implementing sound public health policy which drastically impacts the lives of Maryland citizens
